View Full Version : MKV -> MPEG-2 using TMPGEnc Xpress: Pixelation!!

I want to author HD-DVD using my 1080p MKV video, and from what I understand, I have to encode my MKV -> MPEG-2, load up the MPEG-2 in Ulead MF6+ and author as HD-DVD.

I used TMPGEnc Xpress to encode my 1080p (1920 X 1080) MKV (x264) to an MPEG-2 file using the following settings:

The source MKV is excellent quality! I've encoded it to a WMV-HD also which came out exceptional quality.

Can anyone tell me why I'm getting this strange macro-blocking in my output MPEG-2 video? It's all over the output video. And there's a lot of pixelation as well.

The bitrate is pretty low for HD MPEG2.

Why don't you reencode from your original source instead of an MKV?

From what I understand, I guess the problem is the bitrate. I'm re-encoding at 15mbps, and I'll see if that makes the difference.

The MKV is my original source. This is a video clip I have as an h.264/DTS in an MKV Container.

I downloaded a Movie Trailer (1080p) - I don't think that's Illegal! I think these movie trailer's are available for download anywhere, without any copyright restriction, as far as I know. If this is a violation, you can close this thread.

I'm sorry about that. I wasn't thinking about that side.

Coming back to my issue - I'm re-encoding at 15mbps to see if that's the problem.

Also, I have a friend who has a video lab and he uses Sonic Scenarist (I don't know which version). Does Scenarist accept VC-1, h.264 input and author HD-DVD without re-encoding to MPEG-2?
