Has anybody had an occasion to listen SVCD with Dolby Surround on A/V amplituner with Dolby Surround II ex. Yamaha RX-V1200? How does it sound in relation to DVD?
I’m asking cause I don’t know whether this kind of amp. are worth of money. I wonder if improvements (if they are...) are really audible.

Dolby Sourround II is a sort of "virtual" surround that adds sourround information to simple stereo tracks, so it's nowhwere near real Dolby Digital. Of course since you are talking about svcds Dolby Digital is no option, but because you asked about the difference to a DVD I thought I mention it.

5.0 is currently possible to put on SVCD and the technical difficulties are currently being worked out to get 5.1 to work as well. A couple people have listened to 5.1 track in the form of an MP2 (Doom9, for example, has one of those rare MPEG surround Europen DVDs). Hence it IS possible to do it. As for how it sounds, Doom9 says there really isn't a big differance between the sound of Dolby Digital and MPEG-surround.

I didn't say 5.1 sound was impossible on a svcd I just said dolby digital (AC3)is impossible. And as I understood it, the original question was about Dolby Surround II
