I'm sitting here attempting to decide what I should do for archiving: go ahead and convert to DVD or re-encode and save multiple files on DVD-9s? If re-encoding, what would you suggest?

What is your source you're trying to archive?

Is this question just a different way of asking the same thing that you've already posted about in the following thread?:

DS, I've got a mix of various ones, but I'm wanting to clear off some hard drive space. Some are Xvid, some Divx, some mpg from trading with friends.

Setarip, no, that had to do with problems I was having encoding that specific file for DVD. I'm just trying to get a feel for what others feel is the best way to go. Part of it is, I'm trying to determine if I'm wasting my time in converting over to DVD, or if I'm better off going that way.

In fact, I had forgotten completely about that post and those issues.

Sounds like your question boils down to what benefit (if any) can be gained from converting your videos to DVD.

I'm still a newbie myself so I can't say for sure, but generally the quality you get from any encoding process is no better than the quality that went into it.

If it were me, I might take the time to convert them all to a single codec / format and just copy multiple files per disc.
