Now that most people are buying Blue-ray or HD-DVD player wouldn't be possible to add the possibility to encode the video tracks to an h264 compliant stream inside the vob container instead of reducing the bitrate?

TIA

But what would you use to play it back? VOBs can only be MPEG-1 or MPEG-2... or am I missing something? Are you telling me that the decoder on a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player will read H.264 from a DVD format? If so, I've not heard that.

You also have a bitrate limit associated with VOBs/DVDs.

You can, however, using the MOBILE feature, encode to H.264 and output into an MP4 container.

I didn't know that VOb can only be MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 and I thought that one can include also h264 stream because I saw that progam mkv2vob to let PS3 read HD x264 matroska files.

Well -- it has to be MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 by the DVD standard, and I don't know of any other use for a VOB file except withing the DVD standard... of course that doesn't mean it doesn't necessarily exist, only that I am unaware of it.

If there is a HD player that will playback X264 from within a VOB, I'd certainly be interested to know that. I've heard of HD-DVD players that can play from standard DVDs before -- but to the best of my knowledge they had to be implemented with the HD-DVD format (e.g. EVO files).

Could be a possibility the use of this program?
