View Full Version : Audio-only conversion option?

Hi everybody, I have a DVD on my hands that uses Linear PCM audio - not very fortunate in terms of size. I'd like to convert that to AC3 or MP2, while keeping the original DVD structure intact and, if possible, avoid reencoding the video altogether. Is there a simple solution to this?

I've since stumbled upon this guide (UPDATED: Compressing Audio before Shrinking a DVD (LPCM/ac3 5.1ch -> mp2/ac3 2ch) (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=84887)): demuxing, converting and replacing with VOB Blanker. But that's the long way and also shouldn't work with still image galleries. Isn't there something like DVDShrink with audio capabilities... ?

There is no program that does that. You have to do it manually.
But jdobbs did say he may consider it for a future version of DVD-RB.

And to make it work with still images, simply use muxman. Select your transcoded audio stream and whatever BMPs you like.

I haven't tried it with BMPs (?!), but with short still image films and the free Muxman 0.15R. This old version seems to have a bug that makes the resulting movie twice as long as set in the "duration" fields. If I cut the intended length in half the playtime turns out "correct" in the IFO and on screen, but the still image diappears half way through the movie... is there another freeware that can reliably mux this sort of thing?
The lastest free DVDRebuilder has the habit of resetting the still image display time of these Muxman-films to "original", btw.
The timings appear to be stored in the VOB file, I couldn't find a corresponding value in the IFOs.
