View Full Version : What codec editing DV Content

I have some DV footage and have been struggling with rendering it further with different codec, that the video gets horizontal bars on the top and bottom and I think the footage is slightly smooshed looking in different players after rendered to another format other than DV. Goes from a DAR of 4:3 to 3:2 when converted. Both show a 3.2 SAR though. Guessing since the DAR is changed that is why it's got horizontal lines as it's making it pseudo atmospheric. Of course it's just an old VHS tape so isn't wide screen.

I only read this once, however there was a reference to only reencoding with DV codec if you do any editing after the capture. Any input on how to deal with this? Using Sony Vegas to pull in the capture, run cleanup software on the capture including cropping off extra black junk on the edges, and eventually will convert to MPEG2 in CCE.

Challenge is how to save it in that "run cleanup software capture including cropping" phase.

Thanks.
