A month ago, I posed a question regarding a problem I was experiencing and received some truly helpful responses that ultimately resolved the difficulty. I'm hoping lightning strikes twice.

Here's what I'm trying to accomplish: I'd like to transfer selected short subjects (only) from a full-movie commercial disc to my hard drive. Ideally, I'd like to be able to accumulate enough of these shorts from various movies and documentaries to make up one full disc of nothing but those very things.

The first one I've attempted to transfer was from the disc "High Society." On the master disc, I found that by clicking on the file VTS_03_0.IFO, all of the short subjects played in order. So, I copied that file to the "High Society" folder on my HD.

However, when I click on the transferred VTS_03_0.IFO file, all I receive is the audio portion. There's no video to be seen. I then copied all of the other VTS_03 files to that same "High Society" folder on the HD. For the record, they are:

VTS_03_0.BUP
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB

So, the folder on the HD now contains all four VTS_03 files. Still, the result is the same. Nice audio, no video. I then copied the following two files to the "High Sociey" HD folder:

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO

Unfortunately, they haven't made any difference. Copying the entire movie would defeat the purpose I'm trying to achieve, which is to isolate the short subjects and place a lot of them from varying commercial discs on but one disc.

I'd be grateful if someone could tell me where I'm missing the boat in this little exercise. Many thanks in advance for your advice! :)

P.S. I hope this makes sense!

Virtually all commercial DVDs contain some type of copy protection, that has to first be removed/circumvented before copying to your hard drive...

Many thanks for your response, Setarip_old...

Of course, you're absolutely right. Rather than copy the vob files from the commercial disc to the hard drive, I've now substituted the vob files from my back-up copy. Which is to say, the vob files I now have on my HD are decrypted and shrunk.

There's progress, to be sure. However, it's not yet a complete success. Some of the individual decrypted/shrunk vob files play just fine from start to finish. But some contain only video with no audio. Others have approximately 50% audio and are 50% silent.

Any ideas? I'm also finding that on some discs, the shorts and documentaries I want are included in the same vob file as a part of the film itself. So, I'll need to learn how to separate the short subjects from the main movie for the disc I'm hoping to build.

Otherwise, it's perfect!

Thanks again!

All you should need to accomplish this is DVD Shrink:
