View Full Version : Problems with subtitles (Synch, displaying wrong, etc)

Hi,

I've worked with Substation Alpha and Aegisub for subtitling videos pretty extensively in the past, but recently I've been trying to add subtitles to a Japanese DVD and am having some problems. I've mostly been reading guides poster here or at videohelp and I've run into some road blocks. I was hoping someone here could help me out a little bit.

The biggest problem I'm having has to do with the subtitle colors and positioning. What do I need to do to have different colored subpictures within the same subtitle file. For instance, I want the basic subtitles to be yellow as usual, but for translations of onscreen captions, I want those subtitles to be white to differentiate. Sometimes the captions display at the same time as dialogue subtitles, so it's confusing me. Also is there a way to position the caption subtitle, say, in the middle of the screen or at the top so there aren't three subtitles at the bottom blocking the picture as much?

The other thing is that the timings of the subtitles is not fully in synch with the 30fps avi (encoded from the same dvd) that I timed it to. It seems to be off by less than half a second, but some of the subtitles aren't delayed that much or at all. Did I do something wrong or just time it the wrong way.

Thanks, and sorry I'm such an idiot.
