View Full Version : Good Way to Remove a Small Number of Frames?

I apologize for what is likely a simple question, but I cannot find a solution. Maybe I searched for the wrong terms?

I have some TV shows recorded from divx and in a couple of cases not all of a commercial was removed. In one particular case, it's about 150 frames, just a couple of seconds. In VirtualDub I can easily mark this segment and delete, but when it is saved the frames are still in there. I think maybe because there no key frames in this segment?

I did successfully split the video into 2 pieces, one runs up to the commercial and the other starts at the commercial. The thought was maybe it's easier to trim a little from the beginning of a video instead of the middle, then I'd join the pieces I want. No luck there, either.

I've even tried a couple different "splitters" but no luck in those. Maybe I'm not using them correctly.

I did see on this forum how to make every frame a keyframe, but I would prefer to not increase the file size.

I appreciate your patience, and appreciate any guidance anyone can give me in this task.

Hi!

VirtualDub 1.7.6 (and newer) provide "Smart Rendering" capability (from the "Video" dropdown menu), which allows you to cut at other-than-a-keyframe> This is a quote from the dropdown "Help" menu:Smart rendering re-encodes the affected frames instead. The result is that, in exchange for a little degredation in those three frames, the edit occurs in the exact desired location and the rest of the frames are left intact.
