how to spot wrong aspect ratio on a commercial dvd

Hi everyone!

I recently bought Galactica 1st season on dvd, when i started to watch it i realized the episodes were on 4:3 aspect ratio :( , i went to amazon and play and it says there they have 16:9 aspect ratio.

the boxset i have is the portuguese/spanish edition not the UK/european one. Could this edition been "butchered" to 4:3 or mistankely authored as 4:3?

How can i find out if it has been badly authored?

I should have seen the aspect ratio before buying it but it was bought from a second hand shop with no hard cover, and couldnt resist the bargain, the discs are "legal" though, no piracy.

What do the flags in the IFO say? Check it out in PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) or IfoEdit. They override the flags in the VOB, anyway.

The VOB and IFOs match - it appears it is a 4:3

Ricardo, we (portuguese and spanish guys) received the worst edition of that series.

The first season is really 4:3 and audio 2.0.
I dont know what the studio are thinking when lauch that edition for us.

The second season is 16:9 but audio 2.0 when the international edition is 5.1.
The third season finally have 16:9 and 5.1 like the international edition.
