Scanning problem when using AviSource--goes away when I use DirectShowSource

This problem is not unique to avisynth, but I'm hoping that someone can tell me what is wrong in my video format. When I open this file using AviSource, I get a weird image with diagonal lines like you see in the attachment. When I open it with DirectShowSource, it looks normal. Any idea what might be wrong with my video format to make this happen and how I can fix it?

That's because AVIsource uses Video for Windows, while DirectShowSource uses... DirectShow as it says.

Often, one may have two different decoders running, one for VfW, one for Directshow.
