Where Sony DV Codec Vista?

Anyone know where I can get Sony's DV Codec for Vista? I have Sony Vegas 8.0, however what is installed does not seem to allow me to run DV AVI type 2 content thru AviSynth. Would prefer the Sony DV Codec as it's the NLE I'm using and is supposed to be one of the better ones. The ones I have found on Sony's website are restrictive to specific machines or XP only and won't install.

So there is no Sony DV Codec then that is generally accessible to the rest of the system? I know they have them, although they may be old. If not, what are you supposed to install to get DV content playing thru AviSynth?

As far as I know, AviSynth can use the two common types of codec - DirectShow and Video for Windows (VfW). To use the DirectShow one you use the DirectShowSource(..) function in AviSynth otherwise you have to use a VfW one.

The default Microsoft DV codec is DirectShow.

A couple of VfW-based DV codecs exist including the free one from Panasonic:

Re the Sony codecs, they are "buried" in a file called aviplug.dll that isn't a DirectShow-compatible file.

If you want to use the same codec within AviSynth and Vegas, you can tell Vegas not to use the built-in Sony one.
