How to make a DVD movie into a single .VOB

I just bought 3:10 to Yuma and want to back it up on my computer. I used DVDfab Platinum to back up just the movie itself. When it backed up it created 6 different .vob files and several other files. Is there a way to back up the movie into a single .vob file w/o the other files? Thanks.

Hi!

From within a DOSBox:

copy /b VTS_01_1.VOB+VTS_01_2.VOB+VTS_01_3.VOB newvob.vob

Of course, you have to enter as many .VOBs as actually comprise the movie (If there is a "VTS_01_0.VOB", DO NOT INCLUDE IT)

As an alternative, you can use either DVD Shrink or Smartripper, set to ONE .VOB ("Maximum filesize", or similar wording), to rip the files that are already on your hard drive.

Ditto - I was going to also say, use DVDShrink to do this. Go into the options menu and UNcheck the box that says "split VOBs into 1Gb chunks" and then you'll have a single VOB output file.

Just make sure you're saving to an NTFS volume since FAT32 maxes out at 4Gb per file.

I wouldn't advise the binary join method that the poster above wrote "copy /b *.vob joinedfile.vob" because then yes the files that contain, among other things, the chapter information - the IFO files - break. With this method, you end up with a plain old flat MPEG2 file and no chapters.

If you use the DVDShrink method and output to a single VOB, then it will rewrite new IFO files that keep the chapters intact, not to mention it will still play on most dvd software.

Chapter information is neither lost nor broken."Hidden" would be a more accurate description - and access to chapters can be regained by doing the following (May look a bit complex,but it's actually quite easy):

1) Make your joined .VOB using the "Copy /b" method - and place it in a new folder and rename the .VOB "VTS_01_1" (Assumes that the original DVD's main movie was the "VTS_01-x" series of .VOBs)

2) Copy the original menu .VOB (In this example, "VTS_01-0.VOB") to that same folder

3) The final step is to use the ORIGINAL DVD Fab to "Create Video Manager" (takes about two seconds). Download from:

With DVD Decrypter (free):

1) menu > Mode > IFO I
2) menu > Tools > Settings > IFO Mode Tab > Options, File Splitting = none

Then decrypt. You should end up with a single VOB file

What you've described will work identically to the use of SmartRipper, EXCEPT that DVD Decrypter cannot work directly with a DVD "package" (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) already on a hard drive (as stated by "nighttryder21"), whereas SmartRipper can...

Th is has nothing to do with the question asked, it is your first post, and I highly doubt anyone that frequents Doom9 would recommend a piece of shareware like that over Ripbot264, XviD4PSP, MeGUI, VirtualDub, etc etc.
