Hi, I needed a grid of aspect ratios when I couldn't get online so had to make one. Anyway I added a few more options and made it a useful app. It shows a grid of aspect ratios and highlights those near the target AR, which can be entered directly or calculated by entering source AR, dimensions and cropping.
If you'd like to take a look:

please let me know if:
-You can make it crash
-Have suggestions
-You like it
-The maths are wrong :p

Aspect ratio calculation does not follow ITU-R BT.601 standard. Was this intentional?

add a checkbox for applying ITU (as Amefurashi suggestion)
add an editor where display Crop() and Resize(), just for a quick avs copy/past
add a minimum and maximum error accepted, so the grid will be a little smaller
and if you want to snaturate the project
add input support for d2v, avs, avi with preview of input, possibility to do visualcrop, possibility to preview the resize, a bitrate calculator
it's a nice application already, don't warry!

I was a wondering about the ITU business, because it doesn't seem to be followed by my own TV captures... I just asked about it here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1095584#post1095584)
I will also see about some AVIsynth script parsing,
BTW if you click the help icon, there are some options to alter the grid size.
