How to do an overlap-transition between 2 clips?

Hi folks,

I've got two clips and I'd like to have one fade out just as another is fading in. Is there a way to use Avisynth to accomplish this?

You can do this with overlay and animate.

trim say 250 frames from the end of one clip and 250 from the start of another something like:

a=trim(your first clip,start of fadout,0)
b=trim(your second clip,1,250)

Then simply do a

animate(1,250,"over",a,b,1.0,a,b,0.0)

function over (clip a, clip b, float o){
return overlay(a,b,opacity=o)
}

Kind of a strange way to do it.

I wonder if there's another more elegant solution in one function?

For instance:

1. get the # of frames in clip1, call it n1
2. output the n1-250 frames from clip1
3. get the # of frames in clip2, call it n2
4. grab the last 250 frames from n1
5. grab the first 250 frames from n2
6. do the animate
7. grab the last n2-250 frames from n2
8. output those frames

Could this be possible?

5. grab the first 250 frames from n2 You did not ask how to trim your videos, you asked how to fade one out and another in.
