My Casino Royale had some glitches so I ripped movie only to HDD. The glitches were in VTS_01_1 &6 so I imported those title sets to Nero, snipped them out and exported the edited files to replace the bad ones. They had .mpg extentions. Used ifoEdit to create new .ifo's. The movie when burned had glitches at the file changes so I edited the whole movie to a single file with Nero Vision Essentials 4 and exported it to a DVD/.mpg file. The file plays flawlessly on the computer's software player but when I burn it with Nero (DVD Video Mode so new ifo files will be created) and play the disc on a set top player, the audio leads the video by 1/2 second. How can I correct this? I have ifoEdit and pgcEdit but am a beginner and having much difficulty with these. Any ideas appreciated.

What type of glitchs were they in the files? Many DVD 'glitches' can be rectified with some windex (or similar Window cleaner) and a soft cloth. A window cleaner will remove any transparent grime that may be on the surface, wiping finger marks off for example, the disk may look clean but could still be dirty enough not to work! Just remember to always clean from the inside out, and not in circular motions.

Afterall, if you can get the original working that would be much better! then you could just copy it over again and use the backup :)

The surface of the disc is clear with no scratches. Glitches were picture breakup at 2 or 3 spots. They didn't last long so sniping them out seemed the best way to correct. The first burn displayed pauses at the file changes as though they were independant files but no sync problem.. That's why I edited them to one large file. The resulting burn (second) plays fine on the set top player, it's just out of sync & I don't know why this happened. As for the original, maybe my player just does't like this title but I would rather make a glitch free backup than buy a new player. Besides, the more I work with this stuff, the more I learn.

Hi!

What software did you use to rip the original DVD to your hard drive?

ISOBuster (http://www.isobuster.com/isobuster.php) can read some really screwed-up discs.

You might want to consider using it to extract the files from the original disc to your HDD. Then do the necessaries (decode, shrink, etc) from there.

It costs $29.95, but it is worth every penny, believe me. There is also a free trial version, which will do about 90% of what you need, however some advanced features like UDF support are only available in the paid version.

I think I used either DVDFAB-HD or Majic DVD Ripper. It sounds like you folks think the single file that I have now is unsalvageable. Perhaps going back to the original is best but I will not learn why nero is screwing the sync up. Overall I find nero the most user unfriendly I have used-except for MS software. I would really like to salvage this file though.

Per your initial post, you've done far more "adjusting"/editing than one should have to do in order to simply make a backup copy of a commercial DVD, making speculation as to the cause of your final sync problem pointless - and you don't even know which program you used to initially "rip" this DVD to your hard drive.

You should be able to readily, properly and successfully, "rip" Casino Royale to your hard drive and compress with DVD Shrink from within RipIt4me - or compress with another program that you favor.

If not, I's suggest you return the DVD to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement DVD...
