View Full Version : Runtime Error 9 w/BSG: Razor

29th January 2008, 19:05
I'm getting the "Runtime Error 9: Subscript out of range" message everytime I try to process Battlestar Galactica: Razor. It's the NTSC R1 disc. I ripped it using DVDFab HD Decrypter (twice), and was able to use DVD-RB+CCE Basic to get the "movie only" for the director's version with no problem. When trying to back the whole disc up though, I keep getting the error.

I've tried using v1.26.6, reinstalled 1.26.5 (same error message), reinstalled 1.26.6 (same error). I then tried using QueEnc (same error), went back to CCE Basic (same error).

I usually use the "One Click" mode, but I did try the three click version, just to see if it would work that way. No dice though, same error.

I've tried it with 10% from Extra's, 33% from Extra's, and nothing from Extra's also. I've been able to do several other discs for other shows in between trying this one repeatedly, and have had no problems, so it has to be this disc. Oh, and I do have that "redistribution" option enabled, just realized I never tried to process this disc with that turned off. However, it being a scifi flic heavy on the CGI, I'd want that on I'm sure.

I've now tried to process this thing about 10 times altogether, and I have no clue what the problem is. Any help greatly appreciated - oh, and please use small words and easy terms, I'm NOT a programmer, heh.

Here's the info usually requested:

Hi!

Try re-ripping the DVD, using something other than DVDFab HD Decrypter, such as RipIt4Me, AnyDVD, DVD95Copy Pro, etc.

I used RipIt4Me on this disc without issues.

Note your dropped frames (segment 3). The encoder has choked on the source.

Ok, I see where you are directing me. What does that mean though? And, by "choked on the source", does that indicate there is a problem with the rip, or some kind of anti-copy stuff going on?

I loaned it to my brother to watch, I'll get it back an re-rip it using AnyDVD+DVD-Decrypter or something and see if that does the trick. Any other ideas greatly appreciated though!

Most likely a problem with the rip or pre-processing (if any) you might have done.

Mmm, forgot to mention that, no, I didn't do any preprocessing. Never do. I remember jdobbs saying something way back when about not doing it or DVDRB would produces a screwed-up result, so I never bother. I kind of wish I could take advantage of the "remove annoying PUO's - like FBI warnings" option DVDFab HD has now, but not that big a deal to me.

Your sig has me intrigued and made me look at the log again.

Uninstall AVISynth and upgrade to 2.5.7 (or just reinstall DVDRB).

Ok, so I re-ripped the disc using both DVDFab again, but also into another folder with DVDDecrypter + AnyDVD. The AnyDVD folder was 5252MB in size, while the DVDFab folder was only 5213MB.

I put them both through DVDRB and the AnyDVD version worked just fine. The DVDFab version failed again, at the same point.

I guess I'd like to have a better understanding of why the DVDFab version failed. From my layman's perspective, there was something on my retail disc that didn't get ripped (the smaller total folder size), causing the rebuild to fail.

Is that what actually happened though? And if so, is that a failing in the current DVDFab version (which may be rectified in a future version release)?

Any help explaining this to me I'd appreciate. I'm no programmer, but I like to understand why these things fail on me now and again.

At least now I can file my original away with my other "non-travel" discs.

I'll see if I can find that disc and run it after doing a rip with DVDFab. Any special settings? In fact, it might be a good idea for you to send me your REBUILDER.INI ( dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com ) so I can make sure I run it exactly how you are.

I'm not really as concerned about the fact that it was a bad rip (which seems to happen more often with DVDFab lately) as I am about an uncaptured "Runtime Error 9" popping up (which means a subscript into an array has somehow gotten out of range).

nathanaa
3rd February 2008, 23:28
I started a batch run this morning that won't complete until Tuesday afternoon I estimate, so I'll post the REBUILDER.INI file then. I don't believe I use any special settings; I have One-Click and Redistribution enabled, if thsoe count.

Anyway, I'll post the file then, earlier if anything crashes or I am forced to end the process.

That sounds good. I had to order the movie online anyway, so I probably won't see it for a couple of days.

@nathanaa

Just navigate the the INI file and open it and copy and paste. I don't think it will disturb your run. If you are concerned, just copy the INI to the desktop and open the copied file.

I'm not really looking for incorrect settings... it's unlikely there are any unless you edited it manually. I just want to use your INI when I run it so I can repeat the "Runtime 9" error and correct it. I still haven't received the disc, I'm hoping it gets delivered today. I guess I could have looked around more locally...

Thanks for posting it.

What version of DVDFab Decrypter did you use to rip? I just tried v4.0.5.0 -- and it got a read error. I'll try 4.0.5.5...

[Edit] Okay... that version got an error also. I'd say it's obvious a problem is within DVDFab when it can't read the disc without error... did you also get the error and tell it to continue anyway?

[Added] If you are saying you ripped the disc using "Movie Only" mode of DVDFab Decrypter -- that is very definitely "preprocessing" in its most extreme sense.

[Another] Well... it may not be DVDFab after all. AnyDVD also failied. Looking closely at the disc, it looks like there may be a manufacturing defect in it. I'm not sure if that is protection or a problem yet. Has anyone else experienced problems reading this disc (Battlestar Galactica: Razor, R1)? At any rate, I'm sending it back.

I used 4.0.5.5 (or whatever the most recent release version from their site) when 4.0.5.0 wouldn't work for me.

No, I never do that (I figure it wouldn't give me a final result worth having), it ripped the disc fine for me - apparently; as I've explained above, while it seemed to rip it fine, it then wouldn't properly process through DVD-RB.

[Added] If you are saying you ripped the disc using "Movie Only" mode of DVDFab Decrypter -- that is very definitely "preprocessing" in its most extreme sense.

No, I ripped the whole disc (as usual for me) using DVDFab, then using DVD-RB I ran it through on "movie only" mode for the director's cut (the larger of the two file's that were the main movies), I checked it with DVDShrink to make sure I had the right one before I processed it.

Interesting, AnyDVD+DVDDecrypter worked fine for me, but I didn't try AnyDVD+DVDFab, if that's what you are saying you did.

Thanks for the info and the help!

Of course that means I still haven't been able to debug this error.

Hi!

Could the following (reference to seamless branching) have anything to do with the difficulty?:Universal's DVD release is a treat. Not only do you get the original 87-minute broadcast version of Razor in full anamorphic widescreen video, the studio has used seamless branching...

No. DVDRB handles seamless branching (and interleaving) perfectly.

The problem I had with the read was a bad disc.

As for the "Error 9" -- I don't think the problem was related at all to DVD-RB's handling of seamless branching. It's conceivable, however, that it could have been something in the way DVDFab modified it based on seamless brancing... because it worked correctly with AnyDVD. My guess, though, is just that it was a bad rip by DVDFab.

@jdobbs

Yes, my concern was with the processing by DVDFabHDDecrypter - which lately, in posts at the Doom9 Forum and others, has been indicated to produce less-than-DVD-compliant results...
