it will most likely run at the same speed but it will be much more stable and you can do pretty much whatever you like in the background without any fear of crashes.

Well let me tell you my experience and you be the judge, I had WinMe until a week ago when I finally installed XP and here are a few things I noticed, SmartRipper is now taking me 6 minutes to rip a DVD where it was taking 15 ( the rip process would pick up speed then slow down then all over again ) now my DVD rips in 11x speed where that would mean a miracle in Me, DVD2AVI now takes 2 minutes to decode a movie where it would take 15!! (something must have been going quite wrong with that one..) encoding an hour and half of audio in mp3 used to take me 15 minutes now it takes about 8 and I used to get 17 frames on the same size and bitrate movie that I now get 19+ , now all this might just be a coincidence but to me it's REVELATION, it's like I didn't have a computer all this time, also XP proved to be faster on Photoshop that I adore but that's another story, oh and one more thing I hate Microsoft but damn they just made XP too good to hate..
