View Full Version : Audio sync problem in vob files

I've been trying to salvage a damaged DVD from the backup I did a couple months ago. But when I watch the vob files on my computer, the audio and video are a tiny bit offset (with the video lagging) and the same thing happens when I burn it onto a disc.
I'm horribly inexperienced when it comes to editing DVD files, so if you need more information just ask and I'll try to answer

At any rate, thanks for taking the time to read my post!

Hi!I've been trying to salvage a damaged DVD from the backupWhy don't you just make a new backup from your original DVD?

Hello!
oh, what I meant by that was that the original DVD had been damaged---I left it in Germany over vacation and when I got it in the mail it was cracked.
You can bet I'm kicking myself for not making a new backup when I had the opportunity...
but I'm really hoping there's some way to work with what I'm given?

I'm not an expert but the usual fix for an audio sync problem is:

1. separate the audio and video into two separate files.

2. merge them back together without changing anything and see if that works

3. If it's still off, figure out how much it's off and merge them using an option to delay the audio a tiny bit until it sounds right.

4. If it ends up in a situation where it starts out fine then gradually desyncs, figure out the length of the movie as accurately as possible, then load the sound into a sound editing program and stretch the sound file's length to match the movie length, then merge them together.

Because I never work with vob files, I don't know what tools to recommend here... maybe vobedit, that should certainly split and merge the audio/video. CoolEdit Pro is a decent sound program for changing the length of your sound file.

If you don't mind watching on a computer, I could probably tell you how to fix this by converting everything to a movie file like mkv or mp4. But if you prefer to keep the original vobs without conversion, I'm pretty noob and don't know what the easiest method would be. Do a general search on "Desync" across the entire forum, and you're going to find a million posts on this issue, probably one of them will have an easy fix for you.

@nanuk

How did you make the backup? Since you made a VOB, you shouldn't have caused an audio desync.
