Hi, i have been showing my dad how to convert VHS into WMV (in Windows Movie Maker) - and also converting MCE DVR-MS files into WMV (or similar using mce buddy).
What confuses me is both programs allow differnt resolutions. in WMM as i turn the bitrate up hoping to achieve better quality the recorded resolution auto increases at certain bit-rate intervals.
Why? If VHS tape is at say a resolution of 320x240, why would i want WMV recording of it to be 760x480. Surely id rather have a high bit rate at the lower resoltion. Its the same for my freeview TV recordings, surely i dont want a higher res than the original Dvr-Ms file? However in MCE buddy if you select "best" quality it automatically selects a higher rescoridng resolution to match the 2pass encode @ higher bitrate.
For example i wouldnt encode a DVD into Xvid at 1920X1080 - their would be no point.
Someone please explain this to me! Thanks
