View Full Version : Liklihood of Backup Problems Proportional to Proximity to End

After having tried to backup quite a few scratched up DVD movies, I've noticed that the liklihood of any particular location where a problem occurs on the backup copy, i.e. where the movie locks up and will go no further, seems to be roughly proportional to the time of the movie.

i.e. the further one gets into the disk, the more likey a lock up is to occur.

Put another way, most lockups occur near the end of disks. Or, the worse the condition of the original disk, the earlier in the back up disk the problems are likely to show up.

Anyone else notice that? Why is that?

Hi!Put another way, most lockups occur near the end of disks. That is certainly prevalent, if you're talking about burned single layer poor quality media. Such media is burned starting from the hub and out to the outermost edge. The manufacturing of poor quality burnable media very often results in sloppy and/or insufficient coating at the outermost edges of the media...

Just curious, but what kind of media are you using? What brand etc? Some are worse than others. I rarely see these problems anymore since buying TDK 16x dvd-r's.
