Hi!

1) You don't want to do that because the results will be totally awful

2) Simply re-rip your original source material (presumably a DVD) that you used to create the VCD and make a backup copy (If necessary, compress with one of any number of available programs)

Not all VCD's are of DVD origin, I originally converted my VHS tapes to VCD. The tapes are no longer playable so had no alternative than to convert the VCD's to DVD.

My experience has been VCD's convert very well to DVD without losing any significant quality. There are lots of single-click-type programs that can do the conversion but I prefer DVD2SVCD with CCE as the encoder, result are impressive IMHO for a VCD conversion.

The original is VCD. I know that the quality will be the same as the VCD, but I rather have one DVD than 5 VCD. Plus, I want to put some chapter stops.

You need to use VCDXRip to extract the MPEG file from the VCD DAT file. There are many frontends for this. See if you can drop on the last freeware version of VCDEasy (google search for vcdeasy freeware) as the Tools section offers an easy frontend.

Then use your favourite authoring application to author the files to DVD. Technically the audio is not DVD compliant but most authoring software will accept it and most DVD players will play it.

If not, you will have to convert the audio to 48kHz sample rate. This is a little more complex so try doing it without first and get back to us if it fails.

@GussyI rather have one DVD than 5 VCDYou may be disappointed to discover that you may be able to only put as few as 2 converted VCD movies on one DVD-5...

As long as I keep 3hr or less of play time on a dvd from converted VCD's, I have found almost zero loss in pic quality, so no disappointment there.

But I now have 1 dvd with selectable menu for the various movies with no to negligible quality loss. Nothing lost (other than my time to do it) but substantial ease of playability and lower archival costs gained.
