Burning Duel Layer for image quality

I just burned my first Duel Layer DVD. It only burns at 6x but that is fine.
I was wondering, if a single sided DVD takes around 4.5 GB’s and the Duel layer takes 8+ GB's then wouldn’t it be better for image quality to burn all movies to double layer disks UNCOMPRESSED? Burning only the movie would also increase quality, correct?
Suggestions and procedures are welcome.

Not "uncompressed" because that is a lot of data.

What are you talking about here, DVD backups? Sure the more bandwidth (up to a point) the better.
Burning only the movie would also increase quality, correct?? Not if you are re-encoding to take up the space, you can't get better than the source, the best quality is to not re-encode, just use the source video.

Problem is DVD9s are much more expensive than 2 DVD5s, especially for decent ones.

Hi!

Two very important suggestions, if I may, regarding successful burning of D/L media:

1) Use ONLY Verbatim D/L DVD+R (Preferably identified as "Manufactured in Singapore"). Thusfar, it is the only D/L that has consistently yielded successful results.

2) Regardless of indicated maximum burn speed, burn at 2.4X, not higher

If by "UNCOMPRESSED" you mean not run through something like DVD Shrink, then there will be no loss of quality from the original.

A lot of movies will fit uncompressed on a single-layer disk without the menus and extras. On occasion I back up a disk to two single-layers, one "movie only," the other with all the extras, since DL disks are more expensive and less reliable than SL.
