DTS-HD over SPDIF

So, what I am doing is this:

Using Anydvd HD ripper I copy my Blu-ray movies to hard disk. I then use TSRemux to create a single file that contains just the video and audio streams I want.

This I copy to my Nas for my HTPC to play (and let me say, the files are huge, but the quality is drop dead gorgeous!)

This all works fine if the Audio stream I chose is Dolby Digital. The problems occur if the stream is DTS-HD. The problem I have is that the files with DTS-HD streams play with no sound.

To try and resolve this I purchased PowerDVD and Nero8. PowerDVD gets funny playing files from the HD but Nero8 plays them fine, and even outputs the DTS track over SPDIF which my Amp outputs as regular DTS (which is fine for me) However, with any other player software I get no sound on movies with a DTS Audio track.

On further investigation (using graphedit) I found out that its something to do with the splitter used when the file is played back. To try and get round this i installed the Haali splitter which worked a treat (I got DTS audio and picture) but the Haali splitter screwed playback of all my other content (DVD's had terrible picture shearing for example)

I found a few posts with similar issues to this suggesting that there was a combination of filters that would work, but so far I have not been successful.

can anyone point me in the right direction?!!? :thanks:

Update

I got DTS audio from an DTS-HD source over SPDIF using the haali splitter without it mucking up all my other video playback.

Problem is ts video playback is now very jerky. ITs like the picture sticks every couple of seconds. :confused:

I know this post is old now, but I have a problem playing my movies with DTS-HD MA on my PC over the SPDIF.

I have MPC HC, Haali, AC3filter etc... I can't even play the dts hd on my pc. I've tried all settings in ffdshow, ac3filter and still nothing.

Any easy advices?

Maybe I'm wrong, but can S/P-DIF transport DTS-HD MA? There's an upper limit in the bandwith S/P-DIF can carry, I don't have the specs right now. Besides, the receiver should recognize a DTS-HD MA stream on its S/P-DIF input and process it accordingly or you'll end with pink noise. You know, the S/P-DIF connection is not protected, and any HD codec is required to carry a protection (DVD-Audio, SACD, BD) ....

DTS-HD Master Audio can`t be send over S/PDIF connection. DTS-HD Master Audio can be send in digital form over HDMI or analogue over RCA connectors.
Original DTS (lossy 5.1) can have S/PDIF.

In the original plan, dts-HD (Master Audio and High Resolution) is composed of a "core" and "extension" (like dts ES). The "core" is a lossy dts at 1.5 Mbps and the extension is the additional data that compose the "lossless" part.
New decoder (HDMI) that support dts-HD will play the lossless file or the high resolution file. The elder decoder (classic dts) will see only the "core" so it will play a standard dts at 1.5 Mbps. I think it's possible to send the "core" (dts lossy) to S/PDIF.
Anyway If you have MPC-HC and AC3Filter it's possible without any problems (I'm using it everyday) to send an AC3 at 640Kbps over S/PDIF (I mean, decode a dts-HD MA track, convert to Ac3 at 640Kbps and send it over S/PDIF).

Do you say than Ac3Filter can decode DTS-MA?
Don't use Ac3Filter to decode even standard DTS. Have a bug than distort the high volume (3dB clips)

Uhmm, no; I'm using MPC-HC + Haali to decode dts to PCM. Then I've setup Ac3Filter to encode to Ac3 (and send over S/PDIF) only those audio that have more than 2 channels and are not already Ac3 encoded. In this way stereo audio (PCM/Ac3) and 5.1 Ac3 are sent "as is" to my Dolby decoder and all other formats (dts 5.1, Flac 5.1, Pcm 5.1 etc) are encoded to Dolby at 640 Kbps and sent over S/PDIF.

I only test the last version 1.63b
The problem is also in the command line decoder Valdec.exe

Not correct; you can send:

Uncompressed PCM,
Lossless THD and DTSHD-MA and
Lossy DD+ and DTSHD-HR over HDMI with an Ati 5*** series card.
Check "alternative codecs" section.

I have the latest MPC-HC and Haali splitter but I'm not able to select the DTS-HD soundtrack through the Haali sys tray icon. Mediainfo shows it is there within the .m2ts. I want to be able to send the DTS core of this soundtrack over my SPDIF. Any suggestions?

Haali MatroskaSplitter110109 seems to be the only version I have found capable of splitting the DTS core from DTS-HD in .TS and bitstreaming (via AC3FILTER) over SPD/IF.

Later versions don't seem to even pick up the audio track.
