repair unfinalized dvd-rw

this is what happend, because I hadn't used new dvd's to record on for a while i tried about 7 dvd's to record on but after recording and shutting down the dvr, it said can't read the dvd. Finally i found out, just popped into my mind I first had to choose the right format(same procedure when you clean the disc) .VR or Video_ts . Every thing fine after that but those 7 dvd's didn't work anymore. I easily got the .VR movies from the discs by closing the disc on dvd decrypter. Now when I put the dvd in my pc, it automatically pops up. However the dvd still can't read it, full erase doesn't help either.

I just want to use the dvd's to record again since they're practacially new. I know stupid me for not chosing format before recording.

Try using Nero to erase the discs.

If you haven't got Nero installed you can download a free trial from their website.

Doesn't work either that's the program I usually use, I only yesterday tried the full erase from dvd decrypter the dvd just can't read them anymore.

NO, I will now but, I mean full-erase is full-erase right? I mean if you go down that alley i could try dozen of other programs I haven't tried alcohol 120 either btw.

ImgBurn should normally do it if Nero fails.

Apparently it is actually possible to trash rewritables permanently.

If the TOC is corrupted in a certain way burning software will be unable to recognise the disc as a rewritable.

From the sound of things though this isn't the case with your own discs.

If possible try different writers with ImgBurn.

NEC drives are particularly good at rejuvenating corrupted discs.

Failing that I'm not sure.

Posting on the ImgBurn forums (http://forum.imgburn.com/)might get a more expert response from LightningUK! (author of ImgBurn).

I'll give it a try now but IMG burn is bassicly the succesor of dvdDecrypter, so I think decrypter should have done the trick already. I'll update later it takes about 30 mintes so...
BTW. I forgot to tell that besides that the pc can see the.VRO file, I can also burn a movie on it and watch it in another dvd but the dvd recorder just doesn't read it anymore since I forgot to "finalize" before starting to record.

sorry it took so long , things kinda hectic here.
Tried IMG Burn, nothing, alson tried DVDinfoPro , which has got a full format option besides the erase options, looked promising to me but after the hout it took, again nothing.
Mind you that both the dvd's are useable when a movie burned onto them as well as the recorder wich still works perfect with discs i treated "the normal way".

Those aren't any different, I might give alocohol another shot but I don't think it gets much better than dvdinfopro, going down this alley I could try antother dozen burn programs.

That's not why I asked.

Both Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools have options that prevent the detection of writable media. This blocks recognition of the correct media type and can prevent you from erasing the disc.

sorry again for the delayed response, but as you might guess I do have alcohol installed, but like I said after I closed the disc in dvd decrypter, I was able to see the content of the dvd with the pc, of course I didn't anymore after the erase. I get your point though but are you telling me to uninstall alcohol so I can erase a disc that should be blank already cause none of the erases i preformed were aborted,

No problem.

You don't have to uninstall.

Just go to Settings, Emulation, then remove the tick from "Ignore Media Type".

Then try a full erase in ImgBurn.
