drive won't read 3:10 to Yuma

My dvd drive won't read 3:10 to Yuma at all. It chugs away trying to read it but in the end it says there's no disc in the drive. The drive is a Lite-On LH-20A1H. I've tried upgrading the firmware to no avail.

I've never had this problem with this drive before, and it doesn't seem that the drive has failed since it will read any other dvd just fine.

I swapped out the drive with my old plextor PX-716A that won't burn anymore - and that drive would read the disc and in fact ripped it without error. :rolleyes:

Try holding down the shift key (for the entire loading period, until the drive light goes off) while loading the DVD...

That shouldn't matter anyway since I have autorun disabled. It seems the drive is physically unable to recognise or read the disc as a dvd.

That does happen from time to time, with no meaningful explanation.

I recently had the same occurrece with the R1 version of "Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother", wherein two of three burners (all on the same system) readily processed the DVD, but the third wouldn't even recognize the disc.

As I mentioned in another thread regarding the R1 version of "3:10 to Yuma", my purchased DVD visually appears to be of less-than-optimal pressing...

I don't know if the the bad sector protections employed have something to do with it...

Not unless they have also corrupted the TOC. The disk should at least be able to read the filesystem (even if they are corrupt or not)

Like setarip said maybe its just a random deal where my drive wont read this particular disc.
