Converting Mpeg 2 to .iso or.vob (must include an .IFO file)

I have an MPEG 2 file (15GB in size) which I want to convert into .iso or .vob format. I know it can't fit onto DVD, but so long as it's in that format and contains a working .IFO file, I can use it on my multimedia hard drive. The software needs to be able to either leave the video properties unchanged or match them manually.

I also have the same file converted into a .vob file, but annoyingly it was converted into a single 15GB .vob file and the IFO file doesn't work (probably because of the size). If I try and split the 15GB .vob file then it sometimes works, but using DVD Shrink to authenticate the IFO file the message reads "Overlapped I/O operation in progress". The IFO file isn't accepted by any other program.

Not only can't the files fit onto a D/L DVD but, as far as I know, no program is willing to handle a file (MPEG or .VOB) that's greater than 9Gb (Most programs max out at 8.5Gb).

I'd suggest you simply split the MPEG2 file in to two pieces, run them (separately) through (freeware) DVD Flick to create the DVD structure (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) - and then try using DVD Shrink to compress each of the two DVD "packages". If this is successful and the two new compressed DVDs have a COMBINED filesize of less than 9/8.5Gb, you can then load BOTH of them back into DVD Flick for combining...

Took a moment to check what I had done previously. We are talking about a LARGE mpg. :)

Started with 20 smaller mpegs. All different videos. All the same structure.
Video 352x288
AR 4:3
FPS 25 PAL - Progressive
Audio AC3 2/0 256 @ 48000Hz

Demuxed them in a single project using DGIndex; Save Project and Demux Video.
Using IfoEdit v0.971 selected 'DVD Author/Author new DVD'
Ended up with full DVD structure (16.9 gig).
Played OK it in PowerDVD V5.0

Believe you should be able to do the same using your original mpeg2.

HIGHLY recommended. Demux from source drive to 2nd drive (if you have 1)
DVD Author from 2nd drive back to source drive.

Process works the bejasus out of a single drive. :D

Hmmm. The video is 31 hours long in total. I left it running on a 2nd PC. Noticed that after 6 hours the audio was approx .75 of a second out of sync. Stopped it. Silly thing to do. Will run it overnight and check it over 12 hours.

Edit2:-
The sync problem seems to be caused by the join. After demuxing 2 videos ( 0ms audio delay on both) and running them through IfoEdit I end up with two synced DVDs. If I demux the two videos as a single project and run it through IfoEdit then there is a sync problem at the join. I only checked two.

So. A small caveat. You MAY end up with a valid, synced DVD on your hard drive. :rolleyes:
