HI there:)

i have a newbie question, i have a mpeg2 file which i would like to convert to an mpeg1 file to be played back on a VCD, my question is do you have to deinterlace the mpeg2 file before converting it to mpeg1?

i've read conflicting stories about this so im abit confused about what the final anwser is..

im also using tempgenc is that the best program to convert to mpeg1? or is there a better program which will produce better results? the footage seems to have alot of blocks after being encoded by tempgenc..

thanks!

MPEG1 does not support interlacing, so if you do not deinterlace, you will spend a massive amount of bits to encode combing detail. You're better off deinterlacing for VCD.

You can't ask what the best encoder is, per forum rule 12.
