Why does my decoder's film effect has no... well, effect?

Hi!

I'd love to make use of the Xvid decoder's film effect but it somehow doesn't work. I'm using Xvid 1.1.3 and Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1, ffdshow is not installed but Haali's Matroska Splitter is. Any ideas?

check if the xvid decoder is effectively used for decoding.
in MPC right click on the picture an look at "Filters" while watching your movie.
if xvid is not there some other decoder is being used.

While MPC is running and playing your movie, call "File" -> "Connect to Remote Graph" in GraphEdit.
You should see the "Xvid Decoder" in the filter chain. Otherwise something is wrong...

According to both, MPC and GraphEdit, "Xvid MPEG-4 Video Decorder" is used to decode the video stream.

then the xvid decoder is not working properly.
ensure you have the latest stable version of xvid. if you're unsure, just uninstall xvid and install the latest stable version.

I've deinstalled Xvid and installed the following binaries: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/download.php?sid=1052&ssid=0&did=1. Still no difference.

are you sure it doesnt work? film effect adds some really fine noise to the picture... in HD stuff its not easy to spot though.

I don't see shit. Neither when watching an HD rip, nor when watching DVD rips that have low bit rates.
