View Full Version : Nero Recode 3 SMP Support?

Hi,
Would someone please tell me about SMP support in Nero Recode 3? Previously SMP was only supported in High Profile encoding as far as i remember. Can it now utilize multiple cores for other profiles and non-AVC (ASP) encoding? Also are there any enhancements in multi-core utilization (especially on quad-cores)?
I would find answers to these questions on my own but currently I dont have a multi-core machine at hand.
Thanks

Recode 3 / the Nero Digital components are in general SMP aware.

Most of the pre-processing steps run in independent threads, so they can make use of multiple cores.

The video encoders are multi-(dual-/quad-) core aware, but this might be restricted on a per-profile basis (like with the iPod/iPhone profile).

By default, Recode makes autmatically use of SMP when selecting the "Nero Digital AVC" profile (for AVC encodings) or the "Cinema" or "HDTV" profile (for SP/ASP encodings, these profiles are available after checking the options-> "Use classic set of Nero Digital profiles").

Multithreading is explicitly configurable in the video encoder configuration dialog (there is a page "Multithreading").
