I am currently making a procedure to see if I can automate the conversion of a standard definition DVD-9 using MPEG2 compression into a standard definition HDDVD using AVC compression. The process it slow and time consuming and was wondering is anyone else as tried this. I am using a handful of tools including:
DVD Demuxer (to break down the DVD into its parts and make a scenarist script)
DVD rebuilder (to get redistributed bitrates)
Main concept H264 encoder (to reencoder the MPEG-2 video into a HDDVD compliant AVC H264 stream) This is a manual process at the moment and is time consuming
Sonic Scenarist (to reauthor to broken down DVD)
Now when I say slow, I mean slow. It has taken about 5 days to do, but the end result is picture perfect. My first movie was Die Hard 4 which is a 2 hour movie and really shows the advantage of H264 encoding even for standard definition content.
