View Full Version : 29fps clip, should be 24fps

hi, i got a funny video segment that i'm been struggling with...

its an avi clip and it appears that original encoder did it at the artifical 30fps instead of discarding duplicated frames.

whilst i'm familiar with using decomb.dll to ivtc 29.970fps interlaced dvd material to 23.976fps, this one has stumped me.

when i analyse this clip in vdubmod via a avs script, i can see this pattern...

a, b, c, c/d, d/e, f, g, h, i/j, j/k, l..... etc

the frames arent combed, but 2 frames are shared amongst the adjacent neighbours.

i tried applying AssumetFF().SeparateFields() but since its already a progressive source theres nothing to seperate, i think.

Am i stuck with this clip as is?

Just run the Decimate function from Decomb by itself.

Or if the pattern is consistent, you can simply use SelectEvery.

i could but to remove the dodgy images its 2 frames in every 5, where as 30 > 24fps means 1 in 5 decimation??

Based on your description of the pattern, it sounds like you want 1/5 decimation anyway.

I highly doubt your video is actually 29 fps (and not 29.97 fps). Do the 1/5 decimation and then use AssumeFPS to make it 23.976 fps.

To me it sounds like some 29.97fps telecined content has been slained by simple blend-deinterlacing.

*If so*, then it's a job for FixBlendIVTC (contained in MOmonster's "R_pack": here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=673243#post673243)), and nothing else will deal with it.

i'll try that... i certainly cant just discard 1/5 frames.

there are 2 dodgy frames, first one contains the previous one with an overlay of the next one... and the next in the same vain, but a frame on

You're sure it's not a, b, c, c/d, d/e, e, f, g, g/h, h/i, i...? Because that is a symptom of the telecine process. For every 24 film frames there are 30 ntsc frames, so in essence you are removing 1 in 5 frames, but if you do it right you throw out redundant information, not whole frames. Edit: If that is the case, you are not stuck like that. Just include assumetff().telecide().decimate(5) in your script.
