That conversion is not simple because the .sub files from DVD Decrypter are probably image-based subtitles while .srt is a text-based format. You need to use OCR to machine-read the .sub files and I haven't seen good Linux/UNIX tools for these kind of subtitle conversions. Avidemux seems to have some support for this, or you could run Windows-based tools in Wine. Or just convert the original subtitles to another image-based format (such as VobSub) that is supported in video players.

Hi!
I believe DVDSubEdit works under LINUX...

If the .sub is image based then gaupol is great for this.

Edit: (It's been too long since i did this kind of conversion)
Gaupol is just a .srt editor. Avidemux has a good function for converting .sub -> srt. Like a previous poster said.

Haven't done it myself but this seems like something you might want to research:
http://linuxappfinder.com/package/subtitleripper
Note that just in case you are eventually muxing your results into an mkv containers, that container will hold .idx/.sub streams just fine without having to go through conversion.
I have found the whole OCR'ing to be a huge pain in the neck.

Do you mean with Wine? Because I can't find a linux version anywhere.

Do you mean with Wine? You may be right...
I was likely thinking of "PGCEdit" (Don't ask what the logical link might be between the two)

Ah, gotcha. Speaking of which, I can't believe I haven't installed PGCedit yet.

But anyway, PgcEdit will not help you in this case.
And, yes, DVDSubEdit requires wine (as well as the PgcEdit preview.)

Ha! good one!
Except, I am having trouble using the .bin I downloaded from your website. Is there a "how to" or something about using/setting up Pgcedit with linux?
Edit: Ah, my mistake, I see that there already is one. Ignore my insolence.

Sorry, PgcEdit is not distributed as a standard package yet, and is not installed automatically. But if you manually set the executable bit (via its properties dialog or via command line), you should be able to launch it.

Yeah, I read the installation instructions finally and got it working. Kind of to use though.
