I have a trailer for an older video game in WMV8 (specifically, for an older video game, it is a special longer version of the trailer that plays in the beginning of the PC game Freelancer. It was hosted at www.lancersreactor.com, but they have taken down most of their downloads. I say this so you will know this is legal and not a Rule 6.) that I would like to play on my new Archos. Unfortunately, it only plays WMV9. Is there a way, like AVI's FourCC codes, to made a WMV8 video appear to be WMV9?

EDIT: Just realized I posted in Alternative Codecs, not Containers >.<

Actually it's not a bad place, mainly because WMV8 and WMV9 are actually quite different codecs. As far as I know Microsoft simply has separate WMV9 and WMV7/8 decoders, ffmpeg certainly does. WMV7/8 are descended from msmpeg4/divx3.11, whereas WMV9 was largely redesigned.

Ah. So no way I can simply make a WMV8 video appear as a WMV9 one, or if I did, a WMV8 would be unplayable using a WMV9 decoder?
