bourne ultimatum plays on computer not dvd?

I ripped bourne ultimatum with rip-it4me and dvd decrypter and burned it to verbatum DL with ImgBurn. The disc will play on my computer but not in my JVC DVD player. The movie will stop 30 seconds into each chapter.

Any ideas on what the problem is or how I can fix it?

Hi!

1) Try playing it on another (different than JVC, if possible) standalone DVD player. If it plays properly, the problem is with the JVC player - it may not "like" D/L burned media.

2) Have you successfully played D/L burned media on this JVC previously? If so, perhaps all the JVC needs is a cleaning with a DVD/CD cleaning disc. Maxell make sone that sells for about $10US...

The JVC did play a previously burned DL so I am a bit perplexed. As luck would have it it plays through the movie previews OK ! but stops into each chapter. It also did this with a single layer copy that was shrunk with DVDShrink that I tried as an experiment.

Should I try reburning the DL disc ? Does the selection in IMGBurn under "Options" have any bearing? I just use the recommended on which is "ISO9669+UDF" .

A friend has offered that maybe my DVD player doesn't have the latest decoding chip but that doesn't make sense to me as it should be able to play a standard DVD. The player is about 2 years old.

Its probably a media issue - only use Verbatim +R 2.4X DL media, made in Singapore. The rest are just not up to snuff.

If you can't locate a friend, don't be bashful - check it out at your local electronics store, on one of their standalone DVD player demo setups ;>}

When you say that the disk will play on your computer, do you mean the original disk, the DL copy, or the ripped files on your hard drive?

The fact that your standalone exibits the same behavior with a single-layer copy makes me think it's either your rip or your DVD player. I'm unaware of Ultimatum having any sort of "special" protection--so I'd think that Ripit4me could handle it... but you never really know these days.

Since the single-layer copy acted the same as the dual-layer, why not try using DVDFab Decrypter to re-rip the original disk, then burn it to a RW. If the problem's gone, I'd think it safe to burn that project on a dual-layered disk. I know it's extra processing, but who knows? It might work.

If it were a media issue, I'd think the problem would have disappeared when you did the single-layer copy--or at the very least be a different problem altogether.

Setarip's advice on using a lens cleaning disk is excellent advice to follow, as well. It really doesn't take much dust (or smoke deposits, should you or anyone else smoke in the house) to give a lazer grief.

I am somewhat sheepishly reporting that I tried it again last night to show a friend the problem and the dvd played without a hitch, in the JVC.

I have no idea why it would not play before, perhaps as setarip_old said the player needed cleaning and something occurred to "clean" the laser. I don't know why and I guess for that reason I am celebrating cautiously as it could do this again at any time.

The good news is the RI4M worked as did IMGBurn and the vertbatim DL was okay even though the label on the box said made in India.
