Inconsistent Phase III Rebuild?

I've noticed this on a few backups of DVDs I've made. Basically, I've used DVD Rebuilder to back up "Movie and Menus" to an ISO image. For ripping, I've used either RipIt4Me or AnyDVD. The problem is that on some backups, the movie will just freeze somewhere late into the movie. However, I am able to skip to the next chapter, or simply seek past that point.

When I came across this problem again on my latest backup, I decided to try re-doing just the Phase III Rebuild. To my surprise, the problem disappeared. (Or at least, there was no problem at the same spot. I didn't re-watch the whole movie to make sure it was 100% okay.)

Does anyone know of any potential problems with the rebuilding phase? As this only comes up from time to time for me, it's hard to experiment with. I could try not outputting to ISO and see if the problem appears again.

Does the output on your hard drive freeze or the burned disk? If the latter, you got a burning problem, probably due to inferior media.

Oh no, this was off of the hard drive. The ISO was mounted on a virtual drive.

Post your REBUILDER.INI file. I'd be surprised if there wasn't something set there that was the cause. Most of the time when I see that it is because someone decided to overrided the bitrate limitations...

Could be a bad rip.

Apparently there are quality control issues with this particular DVD and you may have received a faulty disc.

Try scanning it with Nero CD-DVD Speed (or similar software) and see if anything shows up.

If you're using the above go to the ScanDisc tab and do a Read test.

If the ripped version was fine then it must be a different problem.

jdobbs can best advise as to whether it's a DVD Rebuilder issue or not.

It would lead one to believe that something else occured that caused the problem in the first run. DVD-RB (or any software for that matter) will handle the same set of circumstances the same way every time it is run.... if you get two results -- something else had to have changed.

Most of the time in a circumstance like that you might have accidentally had a file locked that was needed during rebuild (or something similar).

I'm not sure something like that would have shown as a warning. I'll have to do some testing and see if I can force it.
