Rush Hour 3 - Lots of WEIRD stuff!

I just installed the latest(4.0.2.0 Beta) DvdFab HD decrypter and it can not handle New Line's Rush Hour 3.In full disc mode it only decrypts 209MB of the VIDEO_TS folder and in main movie mode it only reads a few trailers.Now the really weird stuff:In my computer if you select the discs properties,windows report the the size as 9.46GB and if i open the disc and select just the VIDEO_TS folder,windows reports the size at 13.3 GB!Looking inside the folder i can see 9 vob files with the size of 0.99GB + several other vob's totaling a few hundred MB wich is of course impossible.There is also 2 IFO files that are 0.99GB each-yes IFO files.Then there are 2 BUP files of 563MB & 822MB respectively.Every other ripper i have chokes on this disc with poor old dvddecrypter 3.5.4.0 crashing badly.

Can you go to Settings > Info > Save IFO Files and send them off to the author?

Have you tried AnyDVD using the AnyDVD Ripper (Right click the fox in the tray > Rip VideoHD to HardDisk

It appears this movie is released now (I don't have it but a lot are saying it is released).

This one must be a little funny. Some say they ripped it with DVDFab and some say they couldn't. This one must be a little like Hairspray? Never got that one as there was nothing there that would really make me want to buy it.

Heres a good 1....after trying the suggestions here, the only thing that worked for me is dvd shrink 3.2.0.15 all by itself. good figure.

Perhaps the posters to this thread who have already purchased "Rush Hour 3" ("AlainDelon", "jmhinkle", "hous", and "NetBurnZ") would be good enough to advise whether they purchased the "normal" single disc edition or the two disc "Platinum Series"?

It would also be useful if they posted the barcode numbers that appear on the back of each package. Doing so, for these and any other versions that may show up (different Regions, rental vs. purchase versions) may assist in finding a "universal" backup method, as had to be done a few years ago, when SONY was the first to use multiple different copy protection schemes (including NO protection on some) regarding the same basic title - "Lords of Dogtown"...

I tried RipIt4Me first, and the IFO's couldn't be copied properly. Some kind of wierd file structure issue. PGCEdit had the same problems.

Hadn't used DVDFab in a while, so I went and DL'd the newest ver (4.0.1.2 Plat), and it worked flawlessly.

I don't know if this helps any but it almost seems that both RipIt and PGC's in-depth IFO scan that creates the PSL might be part of the problem? Don't really know much about the tech end of DVD structuring, but just a thought.

Single disk copy, BTW.

1) Which version of "Rush Hour 3" did you purchase, the "standard" single disc or the 2 disc "Platinum Series"? (Or is the single disc version what you referred to as "single disc copy" - or did you mean you only copied one of the two discs?)

2) What is the Region number?

3) What are the barcode numbers that appear on the back of the package?

Yeah, it's the single disk version. Not the Plat version. From what I've seen from each on some of the IRC chats, though, there's no real difference between the 2, as far as the movie disks go. Others have reported the same problem with both versions.

Region #1 disk.

Barcode is covered with the vendor's sticker. Not the original barcode.

So far, most are finding the best luck with DVDFab 4.0.1.2, but the new ver of AnyDVD seems to have about a 75% success rate, depending on the DVDdrive. DVDShrink seems to work really well, but if you're like me and don't care for fullscreen, it'll end up shrinking both versions, if you're not careful. Some seem to have had better luck when they turned off the remove PGC option. Just rip the entire disk, then work with it later.

I too am having the same issue with Rush Hour 3. None of the current applications and back it up. I keep getting an error that the disc is not correctly mastered.

I have the 2 disc version.Region 1 Bar Code # 94043 11161.I think both version of the Region 1 movie discs are the same with the 2 disc just having an extras disc thrown in.

The single-disc Region 1 release makes use of X-Protect. This is unsurprising since the release is from New Line and all their newer releases that I have come across are using it. Theoretically anything that can handle Blade - House of Chthon should be able to handle this disc w/o trouble. I don't know about other programs but AnyDVD has no issues at all.

X-Protect makes use of a corrupt UDF file system. All the New Line Region 1 releases that have used it show around 13 GB of data on a DVD-9 disc. Other releases from other regions and studios have had 80 GB or more reported.

I have no idea how it would be viewed from a Mac/*nix system.

The file sizes are set out in the filesystem. As you can see, the file names can be duplicated and made any size you like.

The only file size and position you can trust is VIDEO_TS.IFO in the UDF 1.02 FS (this is what a player looks for and from there the player finds the exact positions of everything else).

In fact, you can construct a DVD with nothing in its filesystem at all except VIDEO_TS.IFO and it will play perfectly.

As well, the Philips DVD Verifier only reports the above "corruptions" as "oddities" and not "errors" (see page 180 of the manual). So, despite my earlier concerns, these DVDs conform to the spec.

yea it is to stop piracy but remember SONY tried that crap and gave millions of people a ROOT KIT I am sure the corts would of acted on this if SONY hadent first

so could there be anything illegal about making DVD's that report the size incorrectly? like with some older first gen DVD (I have a older SONY that has this problem) players they wont play most of the new DVD's probably because of things like this I guess but for some reason if I copy the same DVD that wont play in the DVD player it will actually play a burnt DVD and the same movie plays fine, but only the copy not the original

DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.0.2.5 beta doesn't crash when opening the disc. It takes a little time to initially read the disc but it doesn't crash. If this version crashes on your system then something else must also be going on.

I get an error message then I pick either retry or ignore and it crashes

if I pick abort it doesent but then didnt I just abort whatever it was doing so will I get the whole movie, if so why do you press Abort to actually get it to work?

I'd really suggest you post about it in the CDF DVDFab support forum. I just popped in the disc and let it read it and had no error messages.

All I can say for sure is to make sure you don't have PathPlayer disabled. I can't really say that I use DVDFab but I did check this disc out.

Valid point. For laughs I tried AnyDVD 6.1.8.1 beta. It failed.

Slysoft has done a great job keeping up with the changes before we see them, it seems, so I've grown a bit spoiled.

Using the freeware version a full-disc non-compressed rip should result in output that is ~6.5 GB.

@AlainDelonI think both version of the Region 1 movie discs are the same with the 2 disc just having an extras disc thrown in.According to the IMDB, the "Platinum Series" Disc 1 contains both a DTS audiotrack and a full length "Director's Commentary" - neither of which appear on the single disc version.

Therefore, it's quite possible that the two different versions might also contain different protection schemes...


BTW - It was interesting to note that, at the last minute, the R1 release date was moved up from 12/26 to 12/23 - probably a "sudden awakening" that making it available BEFORE Christmas would likely result in more sales ;>}

I just downloaded and installed DVD Fab's 4.0.2.5Beta and all is well. I did notice that it was taking a lot of my CPU's resources. But in the end it was complete and VTS_9 files are all bogus.

If you are using the freeware version then that's how it's supposed to be. It has limited functionality and basically only does full-disc rips. You can't transcode/shrink or remove titles.

To gain access to more of the features you need to purchase the Gold or Platinum versions.

Based on all of the postings to this thread, it now seems to be indicated that BOTH (or all) versions of this release contain the same copy protection - and can be properly processed by the most recent releases of (at least) each of the following:

DVD95CopyPro
AnyDVD
DVDFabHD Decrypter

This estimation might change if "NetBurnZ" and "StonedJuggalo" reply with the information I requested of them in my Post #20 to this thread...

I had the same problem and I used dvdfab and it works I have the complete vob's and I'm using dvd shrink now and is working fine to get the iso

It's been along time since I have run into problems decrypting a movie. Thanks to the forums I dl'ed DVDfABHD and sucessfully ripped my copy of my movie to my hard drive.
I always make back ups of my movies as I feel they are expendable, regardless if someone "borrows" them, I use them in the portable in the car or if I decide to watch them on my 360 (bump a 360 with a disc in it and see what happens). I always have my original to make another copy, so I don't worry about the copy. thanks for the suggestions presented here.

In continuing this thread on RH3, RI4M failed to process, only second one since inception and included latest PGCEdit update. DVDFabHD failed on the "Full DVD", let me correct that, it was successful but chapters were in wrong order. Redid with just "main movie" and worked like a charm to a little over 3GB.

Why are you unable to provide filenames and filesizes that are on your original DVD? All you have to do is open the "VIDEO_TS" directory...
