This might be better suited the VirtualDub forum so apologies in advance ;)

1) I've read that VirtualDub can't handle Type I DV AVIs and will lose the audio. Will one of the VirtualDub based progs correctly handle Type I AVI audio?

2) In my toolchain quest I've got as far as decompressing the DV and then recompressing as MPEG2 for DVD (almost.... due to question 1). I captured the whole video as DV and then loaded into M$ movie maker which split it up into clips based on the DV timestamp. What I'd like to do is auto generate the chapter timestamps to put on the DVD from these auto split up clips. How can I do this either from MovieMaker or some other (free) program? I'm currently using DVDStyler to do the menus and chapter creation.

:thanks:

You try latest version VirtualDub (actual 1.7.7)?

1.7.7 seems to read my Type 1 AVIs fine. Iwas just worried..... :)

I tried to convert Type1 to Type2 by simply saving with 'Direct Stream Copy'. The output video had some sound glitches here and there so i wouldn't really use it for that.

But... VirtualDub can't save to DV-AVI.
[EDIT]Uh... indeed. I'm wrong. VD can save to DV-AVI Type 2.[EDIT]

If You want only convert DV-AVI Type 1 to DV-AVI Type 2, try Canopus DV File Converter, Ulead DV Type 1 to DV Type 2 Converter or DVdate.

GSpot showed Type2.

Since i converted and deleted my original Type1 source i had to recapture my DV footage (since Type2 was corrupted by VirtualDub conversion). I tried virtualdub directly as capture program then.

Note: 223 MB unneeded bytes at end of file
DV Type 2 AVI
Multipart OpenDML AVI (3 parts)
(14045 frames in first part, 29626 frames follow)

At least it will be accepted by Adobe Premiere now that strictly needs Type2. But PPro15 doesn't seem to work in XP anymore for me.
