Helping my uncle setup a NAS so he can rip his home collection and basically view from any of like 3 HD plasma TV's around the house. I can't convince him to use HTPC's for each TV he wants to use something like this:
http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=438

which only plays:
WMV9
MPEG 1
MPEG 2
MPEG 44
XviD
AVI (MPEG-4 layer only)
DVR-MS

SO, how should we go about ripping his collection and putting them on the NAS for this POS media player to get to and be able to playback the DVD's on a HD TV so that it won't look like crap? (i.e. which is most loss-less?)

Thanks guys

DVDs are mpeg2 will the unit play vobs from the computer? if so you can rip the dvd's to folders and open them with the player. If not you can 'convert' the main movie of each dvd into an mpeg2 file. This is not conversion in the sense of re encoding and losing quality (Use something like vob2mpeg). The downside is that more space will be required, however much time will be saved in conversion.
