I know there's a sticky with a LOT of guides for stereo to surround upmixing but it looked to me like they all were using various methods of creating new tracks from the original stereo to take advantage of the 6 channels.
I need to upmix the stereo audio track of a DVD extra so I can append it to a main movie (surround audio) in a mkv. mkvmerge doesn't allow appending of stereo to surround tracks. Just keeping the original stereo audio tracks is fine with me, so I am looking for an easy method to upmix where the rest of the 5.1 are just silent (dummy?) tracks. Any ideas? I use megui or besweet often so a way to do this using these tools would be nice.
Would I just be better off using sox or some of the other methods in the sticky? I'd like to avoid doing actual upmixing to save time. I don't really see how it can improve the audio track.
