DVD -> AVC mpeg4 Nero Digital Noob question

What's the suggested Nero Digital AVC (Profile and Bitrate) to convert a standard NTSC DVD ... with no noticeable loss in picture quality?

My guess is something like "HDTV" profile with all options selected and maxed out @1.15Mbps -1.5Mbps

I just what a good suggestion.

You'll want to be careful with that, because choosing all settings and maxing them out could end up taking a very long time to encode. I'm not personally acquainted with Nero Digital, as I use x264, but generally speaking a NSTC DVD at full resolution (864x480 for 16:9 for example) can get good quality at 1 - 2 mbps depending on how finicky you are and how good of settings you're using when it comes to AVC.

Edit: Just remembered that in the one instance where I tried Nero Digital out, I remember that, at the time, enabling the psychovisual enhancements at full settings would cause it to slow to a crawl.

I am doing searches on google... its seems like most people aim for 1.5Mbps... with the best settings they can handle.

I do have one question... I have deblocking set at 2. Should I max that out too if dont care about how long the encoding takes? Is it desirable to have this at maximum?

The settings for deblocking, for all intents and purposes, does not affect performance in any way. Deblocking will affect how much detail as well as sharpness your video will have. Lower = sharper and more detailed, higher = blurrier and less detailed.

In general, it's best to leave it set at default like Dark Shikari said and to tweak it on a video-by-video basis, or you can lower it slightly if you wish to have slightly more detailed and sharper videos. But, I'd still recommend leaving it at defaults since you are a beginner.
