Hi Everyone...
First post...did a lot of searching first but can not seem to find a solution. I have some HD WMV files I have encoded using WMA Pro 10 for the audio in 5.1. Is there anything I can do to get the decoding done on the PC first and send it to my receiver to play in 5.1? AC3Filter doesn't work (unless I have it configured wrong). I have my media pc hooked up to my receiver through s/pdif...all I seem to keep getting is stereo output.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.
Thanks

Windows Media Player can send WMA via SPDIF to your receiver
And Zoomplayer WMV Pro has WMA SPDIF Options
Ofcourse your Receiver must have a WMA Decoder

So no opportunity to decode on the fly? AC3 Filter works for everything that my receiver cannot decode natively except for 5.1 wma pro 10.

if ffdshow supports WMA Pro 10 than have a look at it...
u should resample it to 48kHz - the output of your speaker configuration should be set to "same as input" and than it should work like this...

I can decode WMA 10 Pro with AC3 FIlter on the Fly without Problmes. AC3 Filter encodes it on the Fly to AC3 640 and sent it via SPDIF to my Receiver
Works perfect
Try to add AC3 FIlter in you decoding chain behind WMAudioDecoderDMO
In Zoomplayer use customized MediaPlayback and add AC3 Filter under WMAudioDecoderDMO
Are you using Vista ? There are some Problems with WMA Directshowdecoding and AC3Filter etc
@sillkotscha
Na..ffdshow can decode WMA10pro or lossless. But you can add ffdshwo audio processor behind WMAudioDecoderDMO..

I think that's the issue right there ACrowley. I have Vista...and there seems to be an issue AC3Filter and WMA Pro. I've searched all over and people are saying the same thing...works in XP but not in Vista. Thought I might have missed something..or someone somewhere got it to work.
There's nothing in the registry I could alter to force Vista to use AC3Filter?
BTW...thanks for your input!

Thanks everyone for the help! It cannot be done. The only way to get 5.1 audio from HD-WMV in Vista through spdif is to have a reciver that can decode wma audio.

Hmmm.....
Have you tried setting FFDshow's "Uncompressed" Audio decoder filter to "All Supported"?
Oh, and you'll need to remove AC3Filter ;)

@SMD
ffdshow seems to be ignored here... as I already had proposed but... ;)
let them do what they want :)

Actually...ffdshow was not ignored...it just didn't work. I've looked in different forums and everyone is saying the same thing. It wma pro 10 5.1 will not work with AC3Filter and ffdshow.
SMD...I tried your suggestion, but still only getting stereo output.
Thanks again for your help

SMD...I tried your suggestion, but still only getting stereo output.It works if you use Media Player Classic with FFDshow ;)

Essentially what I am trying to do is play the videos through VMC. I was hoping that I wouldn't need to use different players for different files.

No i dont Think so...its not AC3Filter or ffdshow Thing .
vista handles WMA different so a Decoder/Filter like ffdshow cant connect as like as in Xp..thats the Problem

Yep, this is one of the first 'benefits' of the Vista SO.
