Which deinterlace mode to use?

What is the best deinterlace mode in TMPGEnc?

I use AviSynth Deinterlace filter for all my interlace material.

That depends on your source material. If your source is "only" telecined, you don't need to deinterlace but to inverse telecine your material, which, in my opinion, can be done best with TMPGEnc.
If you are dealing with fully interlaced material (for PAL 50 / NTSC 60 fields per second), you might want as well to leave it the way it is reencode it interlaced.

I'm making NTSC VCD, which is always progressive. The source material is from TV, so it's just interlaced.

I don't want to bring Avisynth into the combination right now, it would make things too complicated. TMPGEnc seems to offer quite enough deinterlacing solutions. I just wish to know which one is best.

If your making VCDs, deinterlacing shouldn't be a problem at all.

If you just resize from full resolution to half resolution, interlacing artefacts disappear, but you may notice some ghost-like effects on moving objects. No separate deinterlacing is needed here.

Thats why I'd prefer discarding the even or odd field then, although movements might appear slightly choppy.

I am having problems deinterlacing my NTSC Reboot DVD's. I've tried the manual IVTC method but there appears to be no pattern. The flicker prioritise method on the auto setting seems rather buggy because it accepts some frames with around 500,000 power when the other more suitable frame might be 60,000, although it's more of a problem on low action scenes. Am I doing something wrong or is this common with certain titles. TIA.
