Undersized output files

Heay,

I have a 77 mins .vob file which I want to convert into 700mb but the output file is only 364mb.

StatsReader 2.1 says that det first pass is 1608mb.

I tried setting these options to 10, 15 and 20:
- overflow control strength
- Max overflow improvement
- Max overflow degradation

I'm running: Xvid-1.1.3-28062007 _Final Release_

Which options can I tweak to get a better result?

Start by uninstalling Xvid, delete the xvid.ax and xvid.dll files, then reinstall Xvid. If you've installed it over an existing copy it can lead to undersize problems.

This isn't the kind of advice I'd be giving - and not only because xvid.dll doesn't / shouldn't exist.

If something really broke for a user like this, sweeping it under carpet by reinstallation will never allow us to find the error.

XviD is not supposed to be the kind of software which you poke and punch blindly and randomly until it suddenly works :)

The need to delete the two files may have been with an older build - regardless, the solution of uninstalling/reinstalling Xvid isn't "sweeping it under the carpet," it's a solution for a common problem caused by installing Xvid over an existing installation.

Jace : is the video quality actually good by any chance ?
You seem to mind about the filesize, but what about the quality ?
If it's perfect then there's no reason to want to bump the filesize up just for the sake of having a 700MB file, lol (yes, I do have quantizer saturation in mind :p).

Doesn't first pass use Q1 for gathering stats ? If that's the case, no surprise the final filesize (@Q2) is much smaller ...
77minutes @ 364MB is somewhat realistic for some material if you ask me (anime, slow-motion, clean source, etc.) :)

Bottom line : what settings did you actually use ? It could be perfectly normal behavior after all ^^
