Help with Bonus Features/Slideshow

Got a quick question that I tried to search for, but really couldn't figure out the best search terms to use, so sorry if this is already explained elsewhere.

I've got a DVD that I want to convert to XviD ultimately. I ripped the files with dvd decrypter, merged the wanted vob's with vobmerge and now am in the process of putting the video in the correct order, since the authors felt the need to put half of a video section on one vob and the rest in the middle of a different vob.

I'm using womble mpeg-vcr to edit the vob. When I get to the bonus materials there is a slide show with basically one video frame that lasts for 30 seconds. There's no audio associated with the frames, just a slideshow. As I step through the frames the timer jumps thirty seconds for each slide, so clearly mpeg-vcr knows they are supposed to last 30 seconds each. However once I encode the mpeg, the timing information seems to become flawed. Viewing it in WMP resulted in weird behavior. It blew past the first slide, then completely stopped on each subsequent slide about a minute, then the timer actually ran for the 30 seconds it was supposed to. When viewing it in VLC it showed the first slide for about 3 seconds then completely skipped the rest, didn't even show them at all.

After encoding the mpeg to xvid with autogk the avi flies through each slide, one frame per slide, with no regard to the timer. Ok, I know that was a horribly long intro. Here's the actual question:

Is there any way to do this without actually going in and manually inserting each slide over and over again by hand? If I'm thinking correctly, I'd have to insert each frame 900 times for it to last 30 seconds a piece.

Set DVD Decrypter to "IFO" mode (NOT "File" mode)and you should be able to rip the entire movie DIRECTLY, by selecting the appropriate PGC - and repeat the same procedure for selecting the "slide show extras"...

I've never used IFO mode before. Quick question while I'm ripping, merging, encoding... Is there any way to rip all the PGC's at once, instead of selecting each PGC and having to make a new folder for each?

Edit: Ok, reporting back. When I rip the PGC's (one of which, for example, has 5 "slides" in it) and then play the vob with powerdvd or vlc it just goes through each slide as if it were a frame. Will try encoding this vob to xvid, but I'm pretty sure I know what the outcome will be. :)

Edit2: Yep, a "zero" length avi that goes through each slide as if it were a frame. It may be ok though, these files may be easier to work with in mpeg-vcr, we'll see. Still if anybody understands what's going on and knows of an *easier* solution, I'm all ears! :) Thanks for the info so far setarip_old!

Load the .AVI into VirtualDub - Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy" and from the "Video" dropdown menu, set "Framerate" to a decimal value (e.g.; 0.10 would equal 1 frame every 10 seconds). Save with a new name.

Well that worked, if I just wanted the slide show as an avi, separate from the movie. Is there a way to do that to just the slide show portions before I turn it into an avi? Would rather not do a lot of converting back and forth to the source material, and would like to have the final product to come out to a specified filesize, so while I could add this back into the avi after the fact, I'd rather not.

I'm slowly getting there doing it the long manual way, but I'm about to call it a night as far as the video goes. Hard to believe there's not an automated way to this.

I'm trying to make an xvid dvdrip of disc 4 of a 4 disc set. Disc 4 is all bonus features: deleted scenes, casting tryouts, music videos, etc. The part I'm having trouble with is the production notes/script section. I'm trying to turn the entire dvd into an xvid avi. Ideally I'd like to be able to just run the entire thing through autogk and have a 1.36gb avi (ok, actually two 700mb avi's) of the entire dvd. Theoretically I'd like the finished product to be exactly like the dvd, but without the dvd menus.

If I'm going about this completely backwards, using the absolute wrong software, etc let me know. I'm willing to try new software, I just use what I've been using because I've never run into anything I couldn't handle until now.

Unless you can figure out a way for all of these disparate parts to have totally IDENTICAL video (format, resolution, framerate, etc.) and audio (format, frequency, sampling rate, etc.) attributes, I'd be hard pressed to believe it can be accomplished.
