Wow, I am impressed! I downloaded the demo of Ulead web site and this little piece of software hitted right in the face! The interface is slick, it produce excellent DVD+RW disk and even miniDVD!

This software even let you use mp2 files instead of the usual PCM or AC3 audio files. I was suspicious at first and tried it in my standalone dvd player. To my surprise the mp2 sound was playing perfectly! The only thing that bugs me (in fact this might be a plus for some) is that it only use A/V mpegs. No Audio only or video only files. Also it does not upsample sound files from 44000 to 48000. Too bad for my ATI MMC captured DVD. (anyone know of a good software that would do 44000 mp2 to 48000 mp2 upsampling withing an mpg file without having to demux, upsample and then remux?)

This software even does background sound on a per menu basis and allow you to build chapters with corresponding video screen capture. WOW!

Give it a try, it is only 50$. A darn good software for the money. It beats hands down Sonic MyDVD (and even DVDit SE) for a fraction of the cost!

Over the holidays I spend over 40 hours making DVDs using DVDit SE, myDVD and Ulead. I would agree that Ulead is very nice, and probably the least buggy of the three, but keep in mind that you can't build arbitrary menu structures. Specifically, if you import multiple movie clips it builds a menu entry per clip; you can add chapter points on a clip, and it will then build a second level menu allowing quick jump to that point in the clip.

Also, you don't control the layout of the buttons, or how many
buttons per page; you only pick among a set of templates;

Having said that, among all programs, Ulead gave me the least amount of headaches; It does crash when trying to add chapter points on a clip, although I'm not sure if the problem is not the DVDs created by a DVCII card (a whole other story)

It's also nice that the demo version is actually a fully functional copy, it only works for 30 days after installation. It's definately worth a try.

... but after some few days this sw has definitively refused to launch. Totally blocked after many unfruitful reinstallation. No need to say that no help can be waited from the Vendor ! But at least compared to the competitors bugged as well, the price of this sw is attractive.

As far as your Ati pb with 44100 audio is concerned , I am facing the same teething pb. My best proposal is to use the good old TmpgEnc - equipped with external audio plug-ins - to achieve the demultiplexing/audio upsampling/remultiplexing process.

The upsampling is done automatically before the encoding phase with one Avi file. Very convenient.
