Hi-
Are you really using VDub for this? Do you have one of the recent versions that supports VBR MP3 audio (with a plugin, I think)? Anyway, you'll have better luck using VDubMod or VDubMPEG-2, and answering "No" to the question about VBR audio after opening the video. Traditionally VDub doesn't support VBR audio at all.

Been researching into the same matter as well. From what I've read so far VirtualDubMod should do this just fine. What I'd like to know though, are there are any more up-to-date alternatives around?

Hi-
Yes, AVIMuxGUI can also do what you want. Don't ask me how to use it, though, as I'm perfectly happy with VDubMod:

AVIMuxGUI only features splitting on certain file size or timestamp. No visual timeline view with movie preview or jumping to key frames, which are both indispensable when cutting movies IMHO... Guess I'll go with VirtualDubMod. Thanks for the tip though!

Avidemux looks very promising as well. It has very active development and features like "smart copy", so one doesn't have to cut on key frames. I'll try it out as well...
