I'm trying DVD Rebuilder, and wasn't able to find a way to convert/re-encode audios. After lots of fooling around and reading, I now conclude that DVD Rebuilder does not have the capability to convert/re-encode the audios, is that right?

When looking for answers in the forum, I found at least two similar requests:

Skrinking Audio on a DVD as well as Video

How to replace an audio stream with another

The disk space saved can be substantial! Just as stated in the 2nd post, "audio for the whole thing is LPCM. Whoa, it takes up over 2 whole gig". So hope you will understand that it can be a popular request.

Even when maintaining the AC3 format, using 128k instead of 448k of audio can save a lot of space too. The sound quality won't have much noticeable degrade, and I can use the save space to increase video quality.

Please consider it seriously.

thanks

Currently audio is not reencoded in DVD-RB (as is true in pretty much any other backup method except where you completely reauthor), except when you are creating MOBILE output. It is kept intact from the original disc and is reintegrated into the output stream.

I am looking at the possibility of adding reencoding as an option. As you mentioned, this would be especially useful in LPCM streams.

Hi all.
Long time last post :-( I'm glad to hear that recoding of LPCM is on your to-do list but how near the top is it and once you set your mind to it, will it take you long?
I've got a few titles I need to back up that have only the LPCM audio and I'd much rather have all that extra space used for video :-)
Thanks Soup

For anyone in a hurry, Boulder and Blutach have recently been giving advice (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=133439) about how to reencode audio; you might start reading at around post #7 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1083503#post1083503).
