I've been ripping DVD's for some time now and encoding to avi files. But while waiting the mandatory 5 days I've been reading the forums and now feel like I’m a complete dummy.
I haven't been able to rip any of my DVD's using either 1st DVD Ripper, ImTOO DVD Ripper Platinum 4 or Magic DVD Rip Studio. I'm uncertain if I'm having codec issues or something else using Vista x64. Is anybody successful ripping DVD's while using Vista x64 or x86? I've been successfully encoding (converting) avi to wmv files using WinAVI 7.7 but it's sloooooooooooooow. Using an Intel Q6600 processor with 2GB mem converting to wmv-9 between 10 to 20 fps. wmv-8 between 180 to 280 fps.
I'm a complete mess. I don't know if I should rip to .vob files then convert to .wmv or if I should rip to .avi then convert to .wmv. I'm running Media Center through my XBOX 360 so video files need to be .WMV.
Any insight or direction would be very helpful.

Thanks!
Ralph

Hi!

Try using (FREEWARE) DVDFab HD Decrypter. Despite its name, it rips standard DVDs as well as HD DVDs...

This does work! I haven't found encoding on vista x64 any slower than on XP, maybe even slightly faster. Its really only computer specs below what you have listed where Vista becomes slower - as long as you've set up the drivers correctly etc.

Wow, Thanks Guy's. This is the first time I've been successful in ripping a DVD on my Vista x64. This program looks so good I'll probably upgrade to the platinum edition. Encoding is only around 70 to 72 fps but the quality looks great.
