Is there any way to take a one second slice from a DVD movie and actually modify the image ? What I mean is, thinking like film, convert the DVD VOB one second slice into still images (aprox 25 stills for one second of running time) and stick them into Jasc Animation Shop and mod each frame in Jasc Paint Shop Pro, then get them back into the VOB? Sounds like a lot of work, but if Disney can do it why can’t we? Suggestions? Programs? Comments?

Here's one method which could work.

Cut your 1 second slice out with VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) - create a new cell for the bits to go.

Once you have your modified BMPs, use Muxman to mux the 25 BMPs together into a second of vid again. This will create a tiny DVD.

The open the new project in VobBlanker again and replace the cell with the new tiny DVD created by muxman.

Thank you. After reading VobBlanker's web page, I see nothing is as easy as good old film to cut and paste .
Mods to the BMP's will take time. Then I will make a GIF to see if all looks good and is correct, beam the GIF files back into BMP's and use VobBlanker as you suggest.

I was hopping for something like the old Movieola machine. where you stuck a film reel on a spindle on the left and fed the film through a cutting pad to the take up reel on the right, looked at the image in a mini projector window and made your Cuts and Pastes or added to the master. I'd give anything for a KISS Principle program like this. Life's not that easy.

Have a look at Womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD. You cannot really modify the images individually, but you can cut any part (frame accurate) and add transition effects. The unmodified parts are not re-encoded. However, that program is not as powerful as it should, its interface is really stupid, and it is relatively expansive.

The Womble Pg is fine for what it does, but modifying frames, as in touching up 35 mm Film frames, cannot be done. The only way I can see to do this is to Cut a section from the DVD file, convert it to single frames, then convert those into GIF or BMP files, then using a still imaging pg, mod the contents of each frame as required, then put everything back into the DVD. By the looks of things, this cannot be done with any software I know of! Suggestions?

Well this pg does what it advertises but cannot dump the stuff back to the DVD.

There has to be something out there to do this. After all, the Big Guys do touch up on film and digital all the time. Suggestions please!

Sorry Les, I did not know that PSP site was a "warez" thing. PSP and Animation Shop were from JASC Software and Jasc is gone, OOB, so the older versions are free stuff. Version 10 on, are Corel and still in production.
How does one tell if a site is "hot"?

If a company ceases doing business that does not make its software public domain (it just means that it is very unlikely that anyone will come after you). In the case of PSP Corel bought the rights to this product line, that includes older versions.
